Creating New Profile for movie edit

Post by Rob_M »

I was using videostudio 9 but now on a new PC using Vista I upgraded to Videostudio 11 Plus and I cannot seem to edit a movie as I need. I take a captured DVD (usually an mpeg) and import, go to the Share tab up top, go to Create Video File, select Custom, then select WMV then choose "Options". Once in options I click the Profile tab then I click "Customize". In videostudio 9 I could click "New" and create a new profile (so I made 640x480 at 1500kbs) but for videostudio 11 plus there is no "New" tab.

My problem is I need to make WMV movies at 640x480 in good/high quality so to create a profile would be best or at least have the option to make WMVs that large. The WMV Zune at 640x480 does not make the movies 640x480, they are smaller. They process at this: "22.050 KHz, 16 bits, Stereo
Windows Media Video 8 for Color Pocket PCs (225 Kbps)"

Does Videostudio 11 Plus not edit movies to an output of 640x480 WMV? Any help would be appreciated.

Try clicking the Tools Option on the Menu bar and then select
Make Movie Manager.

I had already tried that one, Steve, with WMV but got the same result -- you still can only choose among established Profiles and cannot set up a new one.

If you have a sample video in the required output format - perhaps created with VideoStudio 9 or some other program, then you can use the method shown here:
Making and Sharing VideoStudio Movie Templates

Thanks for the replies. Maybe I'll try that, using another file that was done with videostudio9.

Otherwise I was told by a friend that maybe I am missing codecs? That possible? WMP he mentioned.

The template idea did not work. I got a "File Format Mismatch" error. I find it hard to believe version 11 wouldn't offer what version 9 did. There has to be something missing. Maybe my friend is right in the codec issues. Problem there is I am running Vista on this new machine.

I'll check back here tomorrow. I gotta get away for the night.

I saw something a couple of days ago about Vista and some Codecs.

This might help.

I'm starting to think Ken is right. That you can only use established profiles and not make new ones. Time to request a refund. I only upgraded to this newer version 11 to do this task, strange and idiotic if you ask me that older versions do more things than newer ones. I've wasted a day and a half on this.

Thanks for the help guys.

Just an update.

It is 100% a codec problem. I installed Videostudio 11 on my old PC using XP and it works fine. Profiles are there, I can create New, etc. I talked to a tech on the phone and he said he checked on a Vista machine and he sees the New button there and all the options under WMV in the drop down menu. (In my drop down menu there is only Windows Media Player 8, no 9 at all and nothing larger than 320x240).

So again I am asking if you guys might know what codec is missing that would be great. As I said I cannot download WMP from microsoft because I have the most current version with Vista on this new machine.

Is there a way to uninsall WMP on my machine you think? Then I could maybe install WMP again but lower versions making my way up to 11 which I have now.

Another update: I uninstalled, reinstalled and everything else and still not working.

I did however download this program http://movavi.com/suite/ and it made a WMV video 640x480 at 2000Kbs so version 11 just sucks I guess unless it is installed over version 9 which mine is not (since version 11 works fine installed over version 9 on my old PC using Windows XP).

Who knows. Gonna contact support again to see if I can get a download link for 9 to install in case it has codecs or something to make it work otherwise a refund.

Too bad, I hate learning how to use new video software.

Thanks again guys.

FINALLY.

I downloaded that MOVAVI which does work but it didn't help with Videostudio 11 and MOVAVI does not watermark the movie so not exactly what I needed. I was just about to give up and buy something else when I downloaded DVD Convert http://dvdconvert.net/ (I actually got DVDConvert Pro 2.0 from some other web site) and after I restarted my PC I decided to check and sure enough Videostudio 11 now has the codecs. I have Windows Media 9 now, I have HD 1080 and HD 780 so I have it all...finally.

So anyone happens along this thread download DVD Convert and maybe you'll get the codecs needed if your PC seems to be short on them.

I assume you did not look at the link that Steve provided above? http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 833#130833 It in turn contained another link for a website which has a special minimal codec pack for Vista which claims to get around the sort of problem you were having.

Ken, I did check that and spent the better part of a day reading and downloading codecs but DVD Convert it was did it.

To test I downloaded Videostudio 11 on my wife's new laptop that uses Vista and sure enough Videostudio did not work. I then downloaded DVDconvert 3.0 and nothing else and sure enough everything was there and it worked fine for making WMVs any size I want.

Watching DVDconvert install you can see it saying WMencoder9 (or similar) so that program has all the codecs and such with it and put them on my PC. Videostudio 11 Plus does not have the proper codecs so someone should be sure they get added to all the future downloads to avoid frustrated customers.

Thanks again guys for the aide.
