MF6 won't capture, now DVD Workshop 2 is broken too

Post by Alan Mintaka »

Hi Everyone,
Now that I've gotten MF6 to install on my system, I've found that I can't use it to capture video. When I create a new project and try to capture, I get a blank window; then nothing at all happens.

I'm using a Canopus ADVC-1394 to capture video from various devices. Those devices are VHS recorders, DirecTV DVR, and other DVD players.

In the past I've used Ulead DVD Workshop 2 to successfully capture from this card in either AVI or MPEG-2 format.

Now that MF6 has been installed, I can no longer use DVD Workshop 2 to capture in MPEG-2 format from the same card. I get about an hour's worth of real-time capture. Then a "Flushing DV Tanscode Buffer" window appears, during which random video noise is captured. When that window disappears, normal capturing resumes.

I don't know if this MPEG-2 capturing issue is related to the inability of MF6 to capture but it did crop up at the same time so I suspect the cause may have something to do with the MF6 installation. Did MF6 slip another encoder into the mix that might be causing problems with the Canopus card?

Another variable could be the presence of Nero Ultra 7 on my system. It's been there all along with DVD Workshop 2 and hasn't caused a problem but with MF6 now on the same machine I'm not certain all 3 of these programs can get along.

I should point out that I've disabled both Nero InCD and the Nero Indexing Service. I learned that lesson long ago!

Anyone have any idea why MF6 can't capture? I'm hoping a fix for that will also take care of DVD Workshop's problems.

Thanks for your time,
Big Al Mintaka

First, I would install the latest update to MF6+ and see if this helps. It was just recently released.
Before Patch2 MF6 doesn't appear to be able to capture from raw devices that can't be controlled like a DV cam. So I don't think you can use a DV cam in pass-through mode to capture DV or an external DV convertor like the Canopus ADVC-1394 (they basically perform the same function).
I don't know if Patch#2 MF6 fixes this issue or not.

If patch2 doesn't fix this issue then to restore WS2 back working again you will have to perform the following.

Remove, rename or move this directory "Ulead Systems" located at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems : If you get an error this directory cannot be renamed or moved then go into taskmanager & terminate the ULCDRSvr.exe process running resident in memory. the error is displayed because this file is locked.
Then Remove, rename or move this directory:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems. Only the "Ulead Systems", make sure to leave all the other directories under the common files directory.

Re-Install WS2 & all the updates. This will re-create the ulead systems directory again and install all the correct files back for WS2 to work properly. Make sure to install just WS2 & it's updates.
I don't have WS2 but helped out another user with the same problem. This resolved the problem on his machine. Apparently WS2 & MF6+ can have files that conflict in this common files directory, this is the reason for removing the ulead systems directory and having WS2 re-create it.

With regards to MF6+ conflicting with WS2 contact tech support If you installed patch 2 to MF6 and WS2 still didn't work. The method I posted to re-install WS2 only works IF you remove the "Ulead Systems" directory first. Otherwise, what I posted will not work.
