VS 11+ title cross-fade is backwards

I'm trying to add a cross-fade title to a clip but instead of fading in then out, it starts off visible, fades out.. then in again. I don't know if I'm missing something, but there seems to be no way to edit the pause time either. It's greyed out in the Animation TT button and the pause duration sliders are locked.

Any ideas?

It seems silly to have to make 3 different titles, (fade in, static and fade out) to accomplish this task.
