MovieFactory 4 upgrade

Post by tweety28au »

I purchased this upgrade just over a week ago and have found that there are things in version 3.0 se that don't appear to be in version 4.0 se. Has anyone else noticed this? For example when creating a slideshow I don't seem to be able to choose random transitions in 4.0 like I could in 3.0. Also I upgraded because I thought it was going to be able to convert my quicktime movies (*.mov) to be able to be burnt on to DVD for playback through the TV, only when it converts it the movie goes really slowly and there is no sound. Has anyone else had these problems? and if so do you have any suggestions for fixing them?

You can still choose random transitions in 4.0. In the Add Slide-show module, click on Transition Effects then you will see a window to pop up, pull down the combo box in the window and then select Random.

For QuickTime movies, you need to contact Ulead Tech Support and provide them the file to test.

Hope this helps.

Thank you htchien for your advice.

When I look in Transition Effects and then pull down the combo box all I see is 1.Build. I have had a look in windows explorer at the folders that came with 4.0 and there seems to be files missing.

For example in c:\ulead......\transition effects\build there are three files but in all the others there are only two. The index.smp files are missing.

I have tried re-downloading the programme and re-installing and have sent 3 forms to Tech support but as yet have not received an answer. Although I didn't think of sending them a file to test.

Does anyone know of anyway of getting a new copy of the programme?

tweety28au,

You need the extra content (dfm4_content.exe) (345Mb) available from

ftp://ftp.ulead.com/pub/esd/dmf4/

It seems to be necessary to navigate manually from the /pub/ directory.

Good luck.

Are you kidding?

I too get the 1. Build in the transitions box. I thought I had paid for and downloaded the FULL 98Mb version but now acording to jcc I need to download another 345Mb to get "extra content" equivalent to 3.5 times the "full" version.

Is this for real? If so how is the average user expected to find this out apart from stumbling over it in this forum?

It is 'for real' alright. If you look for the extra content on the Ulead http:// site, you will be told that there is no extra content for DMF4. But it certainly is there.

If you download and install the extra content you will end up with quite a comprehensive set of templates, scene buttons and control buttons.

Ulead really do need to get their act together. The apparent level of disorganisation supports the rumour (as reported on this forum) that they have been bought out. Anybody know what is going on there?

This download of extra content from the ftp site keeps upping the amount of time left to finish. With my high speed cable connection, I started out at 6 hours - and it's now up to over two days left! The gauge of what's already been downloaded is not even up to the halfway mark.

Can this really be right? Why in the world wouldn't these files have been broken down into smaller ones? At this point, I hate to quit - but wonder if it makes sense to continue...

Download speed

Post by David_S »

It's unbelievable! I was wondering what had happened to the title templates etc. but thanks John for letting us know.

As for download speed I am having trouble too. I have a "slow" ADSL connection which normallydownloads at 16kB/s but the most I can get from Ulead's ftp site is 3 to 4. After 7 hours I have only downloaded 20%! I assumed it was my connection and worried that I was being hacked, so paused the download and shut down. On reboot I have tried downloading a GIF animation file from Ulead and I get a connection speed of 3.8 again. Weird!

I would just like to give a big THANK YOU to jcc for recommending I download the extra content. Ulead 4.0 works like a dream now.

I also found that the download was taking forever so I installed FreshDownload a free download manager. It still took 13 hrs to download but I am glad I did it because now I feel like I got the programme that I paid for. Still trying to work out the Quicktime movie conversion though...

P.S. The other good thing about the download manager was when it lost connection it just picked up where it had left off when I started it again (saved a lot of anger and stress in the long run).

Perseverance

Post by David_S »

I too persevered and finally downloaded the file (18 hours) using a download manager. Towards the end the speed accelerated towards normal so I think there was something wrong with Ulead's server for a while.

Yes I too now have a whole lot of new templates and transitions. Thanks John but I am still puzzled as to how Ulead expect us to find this major addition which makes the programme come closer to the advertising hype "80 DVD Menu Templates to get you started" etc.

Me too! The download finally finished overnight. I haven't done anything with it, I'm just so relieved that it's done and that it didn't end up taking the DAYS that were prdicted.

They probably have a limited bandwidth on the server, the average speed you see will go up and down as more or less people are downloading files. That's why a lot of sites such as fileplanet instituted the line que so instead of 1000 people getting sub par DL speeds 250 people get decent speeds. 4 to 5 kbps seems very low though.

Edit: Very slow indeed, I'm on a 3000kbps connection and I can't even connect.... unless they moved it  .

Don't think that it would be anywhere else.
