Why do video effect settings change!!!!

Why is it that whenever you make changes to the video effect settings(sharpness, cinema enhancements, vintage, etc) they always go back to default (off) whenever you close windvd and open it back up. Its really annoying to have to re-setup the video options ever time you use windvd. Is there any way to get the program to remember the settings and not remove them?
