Video Studio 11 Plus - crashing

I've just downloaded and installed this on a Dell Dimension 8400, running Win XP SP2, 512mb RAM, 3gig pentium processor.

Within minutes of start up and while simply editing clips the program stalls and I get an error message saying it needs to close. Clicking for more info gives me this error:

I had the trial version which did the same thing a couple of times. I thought it might just be a bug in the demo and liked enough of what I saw to buy, so uninstalled the demo, bought a licence and downloaded and installed again.

I was very dissappointed to get the same problem.

Can anyone help?

Ok, source files are all .avi clips mostly 300mb-600mb captured through Video Studio from a Sony DCR-HC22E linked by a firewire cable. PAL format.

Project settings would all be default - this happens before I've done nothing more than trim a couple of clips.

There's no output format.

I've had a look through the forum and the knowledgebase for info and can't find any.

What are your clip properties? All you have told us is they are avi files.

What are the project properties? "Default" is not enough info.

Please tell us your system info or fill in the system info box.

Project properties:

There isn't a project, I can't get that far. A single clip in the timeline gives these properties:

PAL (25 fps)
Microsoft AVI files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 4:3, 25 fps
Lower Field First
DV Video Encoder -- type 1
DV Audio -- PAL, 32.000 kHz, 12 Bit, Stereo

I've filled in as much system info as poss, sorry but I don't know what motherboard I have but this is a bog standard Dell Dimension 8400.
