Varying gradient fill or stopping halfway across object?

Post by sisom »

Is there a way to make a gradient fill, from light blue to white, for example, somehow stop halfway across an object? I want to make a box with a vertical gradient fill, but I want the top two thirds to be completely white, with the gradient only applying to the bottom third.
I remember doing this in another graphics program very easily (I can't remember which one it was unfortunately, it was about five or ten years ago) where you just dragged a line across the object, setting both the direction of the gradient fill, and how far along the object it would go. Is this possible in PI12? I looked but can't find anything like this.

AFAIK, PhotoImpact is not capable of that. I think the program you're thinking of is Corel Draw. I just fired it up to confirm this, and yes it has the interactive fill tool, where you drag a "line" across your object, and can adjust the gradation by moving a slider in the center of the line.

I still use Corel Draw Graphics Suite. It is a very powerful program, more so then Adobe, and costs a lot less.

Thanks for your reply, Vidoman. Yes, I think it must have been Corel Draw, all those years ago. I think I'll dig out the discs and fire it up again to have a look. It's a great shame that PI can't do it (maybe in the next version), as it's very useful when using CSS to create 'sliding doors' boxes (or variations thereof) for websites.

You should never be surprised what PI can do and yes it can do this easily.

Make your object and then click an hold the bucket fill icon. One of the options is gradient fill this allows you to draw a line over the portion of the area you want to fill. There are other ways too like using the gradient colour fill disks.

Never tried that until now. Yes it does have a gradient tool similar to Corel Draw.
