Convert to AVI

Post by richard.fahlstrom@telia.c »

Hi all!
I am new on Videostudio and in video editing aswell. Have installed started to use Videostudio 11 plus.

I try to convert dvr-ms to avi, but it doesn't work. Most probably I'm doing something wrong and I don't know how to go further.

I'm using Batchconvert. No problems to start, the conversion start and end without error messages. But after about 10% of the conversion, the last frame is "copied" from that point until the end of the film. So the end result is 4 minuts converted OK and 25 minutes with the same fram-picture...

Questions:
What settings is important to get correct?
Do I need to have different settings depending on source file?
what parameters in the source file should I look for and what are the corresponding parameters in the AVI settings dialog?

I really hope that someone out there is able to help!

Best regards

Welcome to the forums,

Video editing is more complex then some might realize, as I'm sure you are starting to learn.

You might want to have a quick read about the dvr-ms format. It is proprietary, and may include meta-data that could prevent it from being edited. Wikipedia DVR-MS.

We do have several tutorials, tips, tricks, and of course help on these forums. Start with the Index Page. You should see several forums. Scroll down to the Forum Tutorials Section. Included in the tutorials section are a couple of great tutorials/articles prepared by sjj1805 (Steve). Just look around the forums, also using the Search feature you should be able to locate a lot more information.

Hi
Thank you for all the tips on where to find more information. I'm look forward yo get started with video editing.

I'm afraid that my problem is a problem within VideoStudio. I continued testing on my own and a collegue of mine has tried as well.

He is getting the same problem that I have. And I'm sure that the file is unprotected. However, the most interesting is that when he tried on version 10, the conversion went just fine!! :?

Therefore, we came to the conclusion that something is wrong in VideoStudio 11. I reported the errror (as I see it) to corel today.

Best regards

I try to convert dvr-ms to avi...
Here are a couple of FREE conversion programs:

SUPER (A "universal" A/V converter).
SVCD 2 DVD MPG (Claims to convert almost anything to DVD-compatible MPEG-2).
...the most interesting is that when he tried on version 10, the conversion went just fine!! Therefore, we came to the conclusion that something is wrong in VideoStudio 11.
Interesting! I hate to see things getting worse... The Corel programs frequently have trouble with the more-compressed formats. I've never used this format, but I'm sure some DVR-MS files caused trouble with VS10 too. Maybe VS11 is worse, or maybe it's just worse with files from your particular DVR. Hopefully, Corel will move these "compressed file problems" up on their priority list someday.

FYI - "AVI" is not a single format. It is a "container" format and it can contain audio & video in any compression format from DV to DivX. (This has nothing to do with your problem... Video Studio is having difficulty decoding your DVR-MS file.
