Dumb Question- Why High Definition?

I think I will just record. Then I will add the digital recording (sound only ) from the sound board as another track. I have no fancy way to sync but I can use audacity to slightly slow it down or speed it up by trial and error to sync. It is such a slight adjustment, I won't have to worry about the pitch being off...

The camcorder soundtrack will provide the audience noise. will Videostudio let me modify the native track volume separately from the track I add?
