In general, is PI 12 less stable and reliable than 10?

I'm just looking for gut feelings and opinions here based on general use. I've used Photoimpact since version 4, not always purchasing every upgrade, but I did move from 10 to 12. My main use is digital photo editing. Cropping, resizing, color adjustments, mask editing, and the like. PI 10 was flawless, PI 12 crashes at least once an hour, and at seemingly random times; during a file save, opening Hue/Saturation dialog, and even on Quick Color Panel clicks for adjustments. Sometimes it displays a memory reference message, sometimes it locks up, and sometimes it literally disappears! GONE from the task list.

I've tried most everything I've come across in the forums and in tech support: Installing the Patch, DEP settings, temp file locations, and of course the complete reinstall (many, many times). It exhibits the same behaviors on both my desktop (AMD) and laptop (Intel), which are both new and have 2 Gig of memory and massive hard drives. XP SP2 is the operating system on both, and all updates are current...

Anyone else having similar experiences? For now, I'm back to 10, and out $50.

On my PC, PI12 doesn't crash every hour, but it does crash quite often, probably once every week, averaged out, after four or five hours' use each day. I didn't have PI10 or PI11 so I can't compare unfortunately.

But I don't have the sort of crashes you've had - normally it will be when I'm moving an object, (a large image often) or something quite 'major', it never happens when I'm just opening dialogs or changing colours.

Have you checked your RAM with MemTest? (Not that's necessarily the cause, but that's the first thing I'd check.)

I also dont have crashes like you are describing. I would put the stability of 10 and 12 at about the same with the versions between being far less stable.

PI 12 is faster and has many enhancements over 10 so overall for me anyway 12 is a clear winner.
