Output File is enormous

Post by Gra »

Hi Guys
I'm still having major problems trying to render out anything. I have a line of text of just six words moving from the right of the screen to the left (no attributes added). The C3D file is just 8KB but when I render out as an AVI overlay (because when I import the C3D file into MediaStudio 8 it behaves poorly on preview) the resulting file is 692MB !!?? On my latest PC (profile below) it takes 8 hours to render and on an older PC it takes over 2 hours. I know C3D is notorious for rendering but something seems very wrong here.

C3D preferences:
Quality = Fair
Output = Optimal
Video Files = PAL
Frame rate = 25fps
Smart relink, create new group and smart rendering are all checked.

Project settings:
720x576 (DV PAL full frame video)
25fps (437 frames in all)

AVI Overaly Output settings:
General
Video only
25fps
Frames based
720x576

AVI
All the options are greyed out and nothing is checked on the advanced tab

Hardware Profile:
OS XP Home Edition
Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600
System Type X86-based PC
Processor x86 Family 6 Model 15 Stepping 7 GenuineIntel ~2399 Mhz
Processor x86 Family 6 Model 15 Stepping 7 GenuineIntel ~2400 Mhz
Processor x86 Family 6 Model 15 Stepping 7 GenuineIntel ~2400 Mhz
Processor x86 Family 6 Model 15 Stepping 7 GenuineIntel ~2400 Mhz
BIOS Version/Date American Megatrends Inc. 0804, 20/10/2006
SMBIOS Version 2.4
Total Physical Memory 4,096.00 MB
Available Physical Memory 2.17 GB
Total Virtual Memory 2.00 GB
Available Virtual Memory 1.96 GB
Page File Space 4.78 GB
HDD Size 279GB (203GB free).

Please, I really hope all this info can trigger someone's technical experience to tell me what I'm doing wrong or if there seems something awry in my set up settings. It just doesn't seem right to me at all...
Thanks & regards.

that's right, it's the real size of uncompressed DV files (about 64GB/hr, forgot the real figure but close).

You could check if you did use 32-bit (alpha-channel) video and if yes select 24-bit, that will reduce generation time a lot and file size too.

Please note that after your project is MPG encoded you are welcome to deletete that temporary huge file since the .c3d can be used to regenerate it...

You could also select a compressed video type.
This my understanding of it.
I have been proven wrong on several occasions in my life. It's not going to improve.
