Some basics please

Post by msmuffin »

Hi all
I'm new to MSP so any help would be appreciated.
What I'm trying to do is this:
I have videoed my band with 2 cameras. Both videos are now captured to ASF and AVI files.
I would like to know how to put the two videos together and transition between them - I put each one on a separate video track (e.g. Video1 and Video2) or on the same one?
I have read the help but I'm afraid I'm no wiser. The help files are a bit sketchy.
Also, an annoyance: whenever I change any of the settings on the track (switching off the audio for example) playback stops. How do I trigger playback with the keyboard so I don't have to keep clicking the play button? I've tried the spacebar but it shuttles back to the beginning...

Any help gratefully received.

I recommend Charlie Hills' book "Getting Results with Media StudioPro 8". It has a chapter on multi-camera use.

You can't repair a puncture without stopping the vehicle, can you?

Devil

thanks. I'll have a look.
Do you know how I can change the snap unit on the ruler?

Thanks for the help so far!

Thanks for the manual Devil.
It appears the snap unit can't be changed.
Oh well, I'm only a beginner yet! :)

Snap can however be turned on and off. Also, the snap amount will change depending on your zoom level.
In your case I would use audio off one of the cameras (or even from a recording direct from the sound desk) and sync both videos to the sound and put each one on V1 and V2. Then, leaving V1 intact, just cut chunks out of V2.
If you want to do any sort of slow fade effect, you can just adjust transparency in the overlay settings.
If you want to do any more exciting kind of transition, then you will need to place the 2 clips you want to transition between on the same video track.
