Hello Everyone,
In an earlier thread I reported a problem installing MF6 wherein I would get this message during installation of AVControlSDK:
Internal Failure
Error Number 0x80040707
I found one fix - for MY SYSTEM at least - on the Installshield support site.
There were two parts to this fix. The first was found on the Installshield site. Note that I am running WinXP SP2 and that I followed the instructions for that operating system. Others are covered too:
http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108167
NOTE 2: I found NO problems with the pathname definitions in the registry. HOWEVER - even though the path to my "Startup" folder was correct in the registry, THE FOLDER ITSELF WAS NOT IN THE ALL USERS PROGRAM GROUP.
I don't know how that happened and it doesn't matter much. I just recreated a "Startup" folder in the ALL USERS program group. The path to this folder for everyone using WinXP is:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
The last folder in the path, "Startup", must be present or the install will fail.
After I recreated the "Startup" folder,I uninstalled all MF6 and InterVideo products from my PC and reinstalled everything. It worked!
DISCLAIMER: this worked on my system but might not necessarily work on others. I'm just offering this up as a suggestion.
My System:
Dell Dimension 8400 3.2GHz 1GHz RAM
250GB HD 200GB free
WinXP SP2
Ulead installed products as of today:
Moviefactory 6 Plus
Numerous Intervideo hang-ons that came with MF6
DVD Workshop 2
Hope this helps someone. There have been no answers to my other posts requesting help on this problem, so I figured it was worth posting the info.
