lame mp3 problem in vs8

Post by lacey889 »

Can anyone help with this:

I am trying to edit a video which has lame mp3 audio.
The file loads in vs8 okay but as soon as I bring it down to the time line or storyboard vs8 crashes.
the video file is okay and any video file without lame mp3 audio works okay in vs8

I have contacted Ulead support who have not been of any help.

Lacy889.

Couldn't you try and convert the file to another format and then edit in VS8 :?:
I know that potentially, you might have a loss of quality in doing this conversion, but if Ulead won't/can't handle this format it might be worth a try :?:
Also, you might have to wait quite a time for Ulead tech support to contact you.
Try a little test clip. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Allan.

Thanks Allan,

I did think of this but have not been able to find a decent converter - X video worked but the loss of quality is unacceptable-
also I have actually about 18 of these to do - so it is going to be very time consuming

I am really disapointed with ulead support - apart from the stock answer of uninstall and reinstall (which I have done) - they were not very helpful

If there is another product on the market that can cope with compressed audio, I don't mind buying it as I can see that this situation is going to come up again

Try the free Audacity audio editor, it uses the LAME library for MP3 support. I've used it before to convert MP3 to WAV format, and it has produced great results.

Thanks Thoff,

However, this appears to be an audio only application - I need something for the audio in video files

Sorry, I misunderstood. I thought you said you have MP3 files, I guess they must be AVI files with audio in MP3 format.

Does the video play correctly in things like Windows Media Player? Have you tried checking the file with G-Spot?

Did you create this video file on a Linux Box?

You can use Avidemux2

I don't think the files was made in Linux

I do have the necessary codecs because all these files play okay in windows media player

Ulead VS8 edits other files okay as long as the audio is not LAme MP3, as soon as I load any file with Lame MP3 audio VS8 crashes

Strange huh?

Hi,

It sounds like the video file is possibly a MP4 /divx etc type of video file.

Hi MD

Video is 24bit Xvid 187 kbps 23 fps 480 x 360

Audio is Lame Mp3 128kbps

I really think the problem lies with the audio - does anyone know of ANY video editor that will handle this

I am disappointed with the way Ulead could not be bothered to address this problem

I doubt the problem is the video codec - XviD.

You might need to contact the XviD team in http://www.xvid.org to ask for help.

Or you can remove XviD and use DivX to read the video.

http://www.divx.com

Hope this helps.

My suggestion would be to try VirtualDub, which is free and has some support for digesting bad/damaged video and audio -- it may be able to open the file, and let you render it to a new output file using the audio and video codec of your choice.
