VS11 has an established bug which will not allow it to capture from an analogue source. That is the case with analogue capture cards, a mini DV camera being used as a pass-through device from an analogue camera or VCR or even a Sony Digital 8 camera, connected via firewire, but playing back an analogue 8mm or Hi8 tape. It has something to do with the new capture plug-in that was used in VS11 which replaced the plug-in used in previous versions which always worked -- at least for 99% of users...

Corel say they are working on a patch, but it has been more than 4 months now since they became aware of the problem (not to mention a number of other serious ones) but nothing has yet appeared. Worse, there are indications a patch might not appear until the end of the year, which to my mind would be indefensible since I too am one of the increasing number of unhappy users who have paid out good money for a program which simply won't do what is predecessors could do with ease!  Here endeth the rant!!

Thank you Mr Berry for replying so promptly, and appreciate your effort to improve our tech. knoledge.I just have a few questions:
1.Why Ulead 7 and 9 were working perfectly on my old PC(win xp home edition,sp2..1.7GHz,1RAMGB, ATI aiw 9000 64mb!) connecting the same Sony Hi8 cam thru ATI s-video? and 7,8 are not working at all on my new PC?
2. Why videoMILL is working perfectly on the new PC and same Sony Hi8 cam thru s-video while Ulead 7,8,9,10 and11 not?
3. why windows movie maker is capturing from Sony mini-DV thru iLink, while all Ulead not?
4.Among a lot of trials I even added ulead.exe to DEP options in device managerjust in case,, but still ulead cnot working!!why? THANK YOU AGAIN FOR HELPING!

I do not know why the earlier versions of Video Studio no longer work. It could be that the installation of the buggy version 11 has affected them, though I have versions 8, 9 and 10+ on the same XP Pro computer as VS11+ and the earlier versions still all work to capture from an analogue source. Only VS11 does not, and as I already said, that is because of a new capture plug-in.

Apart from that, what more can I say? The VS11 fault on my computer, and on those of many other users, only affects capture by VS11, not other programs. I normally use WinDV to capture DV and have no problem with that either.

Successful capture from tape-camcorder (Version 11+)

Post by pinkhouse »

I tried several times to capture (firewire) from my little Panasonic NV-GS17, minitape camcorder - and it failed. However, the last two attempts ACHIEVED IT. I clicked into the capture tab, AND clicked the Capture Icon (with the camera on it) BEFORE turning the camera on.

I was told by VideoStudio that no device was attached. I OK'd that message to get rid of it. THEN the camera was turned on. (Cancel any Windows pop-up screens asking what you want to do.)

I was told that a device was attached (unrecognised, or something like that - doesn't particularly matter) and did I want to use it. I leapt at the chance (wouldn't you?) and it worked beautifully.

Thanks to the tip within the forums.
