Trouble with Create disc in video studio 8
This is the first time to use this program & ive found it pretty easy to use until i reached the create disc section. As soon as i clicked on the output button, it started to count up towards 100% saying "converting video", it only took about 15 minutes to get to 99% and it has been stuck on this for an hour. i have 30 mins of home movie and about 50 images, and 2 songs. Has anyone else experiened this problem?

Check your exact workflow steps against this post. This is generally where it goes wrong.

Lots of people have experienced this. Essentially, it is a workflow situation. Essentially, though, once you are finished editing, you should go to Share > Create Video File > DVD to produce a DVD-compatible mpeg-2. I think instead you went straight to the burning module (Share > Create Disc). Some people do this all the time successfully, but it seems to me that more try and fail.
Once you have produced this mpeg-2 file, and ONLY then, open a new project. Don't worry about a name for it -- the important part is just to clear the timeline. Then you go to Share > Create Disc > DVD, and in the burning module, insert the new mpeg-2 file(s).
Check in the second icon in the bottom left of screen; and make sure the 'Do not convert compliant MPEG files' box in that icon is checked. Otherwise, the program will try to render the file again, as well as all the multiplexing of video and audio, creation of menus etc, all on the fly, which is a big ask for any computer. This is very likely to cause problems such as the whole process coming to a screaming halt as you have found.
The basic message is not to have any reference to 'converting video' in the burning process apart from conversion of your menu to video.

Ken, thank you very much for your advice, im going throught the process that you have suggested, my only concern is when you said:
"Check in the second icon in the bottom left of screen; and make sure the 'Do not convert compliant MPEG files' box in that icon is checked. Otherwise, the program will try to render the file again, as well as all the multiplexing of video and audio, creation of menus etc, all on the fly, which is a big ask for any computer. Im looking for where i can select this and i cannot seem to see it. On which page should it be on? AS once i select the create video file and select Mpeg 2 it comes up with the save as box.

It's on the burning screen. Down in the bottom left of that screen are two icons. It's the one with the cogwheel icon on it. When you hover the mouse, it says 'Project Settings'. By the time you open the burning module, you should already have produced your DVD-compliant file. And once you open the burning module and insert that file, you don't want it to be rendered again.
