smallest video size
Glad to know it's not just me and my uploads don't seem to have any issues either. I'm just curious why all the info I see relates to sound as MP3 but the Ulead plug-in doesn't have that option; a licensing issue??

Do you understand what mp3 is? It is layer 3 on MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 video files. It is not a sound-only file format or, at least, was never intended to be so. There is no international standard on mp3 as a stand-alone audio file. It is a video file with the video stripped away and different codecs do it in different ways. This is why it is always hairy using a mp3 file as an audio source for video editing. In some cases it may work; in some cases the video editor will refuse it because it cannot recognise the inevitable video vestiges remaining; in some cases, it will accept it but cause synch problems either because the bitrate or the framerate is incompatible; in other cases, it may accept part of it and reject the rest.
Taken into context, the MC encoders that MSP use encode the audio correctly to layer 3 of an MPEG video but there is no way of stripping the video away just to leave the sound. OTOH, you can generate, e.g., WAV, files, which are legitimate stand-alone audio formats, from the sound track of a project.
