Problems Playing DVD's on Windows Media Player

Post by David Pearson »

I have just dowwnloaded V11+ so I am a newby so treat me kind.

I have tried a couple of clips & burnt them to DVD. A couple of things I cannot understand.

1) My dvd will not play correctly through WMP. Am I doing something wrong or is there a compatability issue. The DVD will play through PowerDVD5.

2) When reviewing clips imported in the viewing window they do not appear to be smooth but are OK when burnt to DVD. Is it because I am using a camera that burns to small dvd's and uses MPEG format.

I hope somebody can help.

Thanks

David

WMP will not play DVD's authored by Video Studio, or probably other video programs as well. You need to upgrade the video codecs through the website in WMP, which will cost you $15 bucks or so.

Do a search on the internet for Windows Decoder Checkup Utility. It can scan your existing MPEG2 codecs to see if any of the ones on your computer can be used by WMP to play MPEG2's or DVDs. If there is one you will be abale to associate that codec with WMP.
With the full version of VS you get the Intervideo DVD player and its codec is compatible, I use it myself.
It is not a problem regarding DVD's burned by VS, it is the fact that WMP does not come with a free MPEG2/DVD decoder.
