Crossing of video clips

Hi all,
I'm trying to create a video with several tiny clips. Between the clips I use a crossing template (zipper). But if I use this the time of the whole video will reduce and not extend, what I expect. The outcome is that the content of the smallest clips are no longer usable.
What can I do that the crossing effects extend the whole video length and not vice versa. I tried so many possibilities, but so far no results.
Can someone help me, as the video is for a good friend for birthday.

Any transition you put into your video will overlap the adjacent clips. Because of that the duration shortens, fact of life.

If the individual clips are too short, forget about a transition.

Or lengthen them by slowing down the Playback Speed.
