Video Filter Overlay Question

Post by Gra »

Hi Guys
I've made a title on which I've added the zoom motion video filter. It looks good but it's lost it's transparency and is blocking out everything behind. The transparency types in overlay are blanked out when I tried that option. Is this normal or is there a trick I can use?

The project settings are:
PAL (25 fps)
Video tracks: 7
Microsoft AVI files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 4:3, 25 fps
Lower Field First
DV Video Encoder -- type 1
DV Audio -- PAL, 48.000 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo
Thanks & regards.

Isn't this inevitable with a filter that modifies a transparent background? I suggest you try and achieve what you want using the filters within the titler (there are plenty of them and you can customise the effects of every one of them). I'm not saying you can achieve the exact same effect but if you want something that modifies the background, then this should be done to the background clip and not the title clip.

Not necessarily. I just added a TGA with transparency to the timeline. The zoom filter works exactly as expected on the transparent section if you check the "Apply alpha channel" in the filter list dialog.

It just doesn't seem to work with titles.

Thanks Guys - sorry Devil, I didn't know, but now I understand the problem.

Gorf, I have a PNG transparency overlay with Alpha Channel set, which I tried but I had no success - it's just blank! Am I missing something or must it be TGA only (I thought they did the same)?
Thanks & regards.

I notice that sometimes, when you drop a still (with alpha) onto an overlay track, MSP doesn't automatically recognise it as alpha. Try {Ctrl-R} on the still and select "alpha". (Usually, MSP "realises" it's an alpha as soon as you use the overlay dialog.)

I used a couple of the PNGs from this site. The "8 bit palette" didn't work, but the "32 bit palette" did, once I'd paid a visit to the overlay dialog.
