Small screen when burning DVDs using VS8 SE

Post by rwilsonsc »

When I capture video and burn it to DVD using the following settings:

720x480 resolution
4:3 aspect
VBR 8000 kb
Using firewire from JVC to computer

the video is a small square surrounded by black in the middle of my tv/computer. Is it wrong to think I can get video as good as what's on the DV tape at full screen using this software?

Really confused, need some help... thanks in advance

Is that in the preview window or while your using a media player? Video sizes are relatively small in relationship to monitor displays. Try loading your captured video in MS Media Player, go to the menu bar and select view>100% If your monitor display is set at 1024x768 the video should take up about 2/3's the screen.

I suggest you do a test burn to see what your getting for final output. Could just be that your misunderstanding the nuances of video....

BTW, using a monitor to judge your final output is not a very good way to go about it. The best output will be what you see from the fianl output to TV. Providing you go about it the right way you should be able to produce nearly identical video to what is on your DV cam for playback on a TV off a DVD.

Edit: sorry I just reread your post, try what I suggested with your captured video and play it in ms media player. First thing is determine is if your capturing the video properly.

I'll try that. But what I didn't mention was that I did indeed burn a test DVD. The small square in the middle of the screen was on the TV. SHould have made myself clear.

I'll try burning another today at some point. I just thought I had all the settings correct for it to be full screen on TV. Oh, and I do understand that it will be better on TV, glad it was :D

I was just wondering if there was a limitation in the SE version that wouldn't allow it to be full screen or if my settings were wrong.

I'll try another test, I del'd that video because it wasn't full screen.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

I finally got it tonight. I must have had the VBR set to around 4000 and after bumping to 8265 and retrying it looks nice on a full TV screen.

Thanks again,
Rodney
