"loading wave data" message
I have a Sony TRV480 that I have been using to shoot and download DV AVI files and also to convert old 8mm analog tapes. I have VS 9 that came with my firewire card and downloaded the trial version of VS11+ both installed on my P4 2.8Ghz Dell. It's generally working well as long as I capture in VS9 or WMM rather than VS11+. I am trying to decide if I should invest in the VS11+ upgrade. I don't have HD equipment, so the main advantage seems to be the audio waveform viewer. However, half the time all I get is "loading wave data" message. I don't understand why the waveform either takes a long time to appear or never appears. Can you help? Oh, the other clear advantage of VS11+ is that VS9 sometimes closes abruptly on me.

There is a known bug with VS11 by which it will not capture from your TRV480 when using the old analogue tapes. It has something to do with the new capture plug-in used which replaced the one which worked in all previous versions. I have an identical camera and know the problem well. Apparently Corel is working on a patch, but we understand it may not emerge for another 3 months. So if you intend to capture a lot of analogue tapes, I would stick with VS9 for the moment...

loading wave data follow up
Ken,
Thanks for the fast response! I hope they do indeed release a patch soon. At least there is a satisfactory work around with VS9.
I am still wondering about the "loading wave data" message. With big files, it can take many minutes for the wave form to appear in UVS11+. In contrast, the wave form seems to appear quite quickly in Windows Movie Maker 2.1. I have tried deleting and re-importing the clips into UVS, but it is still very slow. I found the audio files in a tmp folder and part of my problem may be that I have moved some clips around to different folders. Anyway, is there a way to speeed up the wave form viewer? I don't think this is just an analog problem.
By the way, I have learned a lot from reading posts in this forum. Thanks very much!

Sorry -- I am not sure what to suggest about the wave form data. In fact, I have to confess that until you drew my attention to it, I had not considered it in VS11.
I am also not sure what you mean by a long file. But I have just experimented. A recently finalised mpg file I made from a home video project, which is 20 minutes long, took 8 seconds for the video wave data to appear. Not wonderful, but I guess reasonable since I don't know what other users might be getting. But then I used another recently made home mpeg file whose length is just a tad below 30 minutes, and this time it took a colossal 40 seconds for the wave form to appear... Rather silly, I would have to agree, that it took 5 times longer to load for only 10 minutes extra video...
However, I have no idea what might cause the delay, much less how to correct it if indeed it can be corrected!
Hopefully other users will jump in here with suggestions...

I have the same problem with the "loading wave data..." taking so long to load. It takes about 15 minutes to load the wave data from a 45min HDV video. While the wave data from a 3 min *.wav file loads almost instantly. Also, I noticed that new files get created in the VS11.5+ audio_temp folder every time I move the position of my video or audio clips. This seems to be unnecessary since the clips themselves have not changed.
