Edits do not show up in burned project

Post by cdawley »

With U-lead Video Studio 10 I edited Video and made a DVD. I then wanted to make more edits before burning another DVD. I reopened the project and then I draged the edits into the project clips. The edits showed in the Navigator window. I burned the new DVD but the edits (ie enhanced lighting and changes in hue and saturation did not take. I tried burning directly after making the edits and also after saving the project, re-entering it, and then burning it. The changes did not seen to show up either way on the burned DVD.

Thanks

After editing, you should first convert the project (as we recommend) to DVD compatible mpeg-2: Share > Create Video File > DVD.

Once you have your mpeg-2, save your project, then open a new one. Don't worry about a name for it -- the objective is just to clear the timeline.

Then you go to Share > Create Disc, insert your new mpeg-2 into the burning timeline, make your menu and burn. Also, make sure 'do not convert compliant mpeg files' is ticked in the middle of the three icons in the bottom left of the burning screen. You should not have to adjust any of the properties in the burn module.

Poor Video quality on output after edit

Post by cdawley »

When converting video to DVD compatible mpeg-2 is it Share>Create Video File>DVD or Share>Create Video File>mpeg-2. Can this mpeg-2 file be brought back into the edit timeline to perform additional edits and then overwritten on the previous Vidio File.

Thanks

You are confusing a few issues here. When you edit your source video in a VS project, any changes you make are not reflected in your source files. These remain unaltered. VS knows from its project file where to find the source clips and what to do to them. When you go to Share>Create Video File>DVD and continue to burn this file to disk or chose to create a DVD compliant file in mpeg2 format is irrelevant because the program first creates this mpeg2 file (render your edits) and then proceeds to author and burn this file to the DVD disk.

It is recommended to start a new project and put the generated mpeg2 file into the time line in order to author to DVD. You can edit this file prior to authoring of course but it is going to be one clip. Any changes you make to lighting etc. will affect the whole clip. It is much better to start with the original project file, make your additional changes and then create a new mpeg2 file from this project. Entering this mpeg file into a new project will then ensure that any subsequent editing steps are relected in this file.

You do not want to go back to your previous file bcause this one does not have any of the edits included. Remember, any editing is not altering the source files, only the output file from your project is going to reflect the changes.

And for the sake of completeness, you select -- as I said -- Share > Create Video File > DVD, not mpeg-2. Not all mpeg-2s are necessarily DVD compliant...
