I don't know why this is, but I get it too in VideoStudio 11 when loading non-MPEG-2 content, such as DivX, Xvid, etc.
I find it sometimes has problems with MP3 sound that's attached with video. It does render it successfully in the final file when converting, but won't preview it some of the time.
I sometimes load, and reload it and sometimes it works. Still annoying.
Here's what I do.
I load the file. If the sound doesn't preview then I go to the "Share" tab -> Create Sound File and quickly save it to ".wav". Then I use this ".wav" file as my audio, while blocking all other audio from the video clips, and VS accepts it and works with it just fine (since it's a "VS creation" now). Yeah, strange.
This sound file is relatively lossless so you preserve the quality. The much bigger file size of .wav is not a big deal either since you're only working with it temporarily until your project is completed.
Hope it helps until someone has a better idea.
