burn TS folder to DVD in Nero need help preserving originals

Post by happyhero »

Hi I am probably going to be told off here but I have asked a question in another post that is getting a bit envolved and long and have not had an answer for a while so I thought it may be best to start a new post and get straight to the point.

The reason I have put it here is that I did my project in VS and this is just the tail end of the work that I want to do in Nero as advised on here by others, so I hope it is ok here as a lot of people seem to go this way using VS first and Nero at the end. Also I dont know where else to put it, so sorry if I have done wrong.

Right to the point now, I have created my Mpeg2 file and then a TS folder by burning to harddisk. But I do not seem to be able to figure out the bit in Nero.

I want to burn the TS folder to DVD and the folder that contains my original pictures so that I can get to them in the future ie the DVD can be my photo store instead of my HD for all the pictures I used in the slideshow I made in VS.

Can anybody tell me how to do this step by step? Pretty Please?

I have read some tutorials but none seem to mention including a personal folder with original pictures. I'm sure it can be done but how. You can add it in VS just before burning if you burn the Mpeg2 but how do I do it in Nero whilst I am using the TS folder.

Help please

I have Nero 6 and have just quickly stepped through the DVD burning process and can find no option for including a separate folder on the DVD the way that VS does.

I don't think that the DVD standard allows for hybrid disks, i.e. DVD content and data.

I'm not sure how VS handles that but the originals would have to be part of the actual DVD content, not separate folders.

Cheers guys for your inputs, much appreciated. I am beginning to wonder if I am barking up the wrong tree here.

My thinking was yes I can make the DVD in Ulead from the MPEG2 file and include the personal folder but since the TS folder was like a proved version of what will end up on the DVD ie a little further along in the process so less chances for new errors to appear, I would use this folder to make the DVD. I especially felt this was the way to go when several people on here advised going this way and burning to harddisk first.

I am still hoping someone will tell me the Nero process step by step even if I cannot include a personal folder, as I am not sure what to select at each stage. I have Nero 7.

The second part of my thinking was that by including a personal folder, I would have a store of my original pictures that I could use in the future, to print off etc. Lets face it, the amount of photos over the years just keep building up and up on your harddrive, so an organised way would be to keep the originals on the DVD with slideshow like your old photo albums kept your photos organised. Simple pick up the DVD and it has everything, the show the originals and all dated, so you could keep the DVD's filed chronologicaly or similar.

I would have thought if Ulead can store a personal folder, then Nero would definitely be able as it seems to be able to do even more than Ulead.

But now as no one seems to know how to do it maybe I have it wrong and I should not rely on the DVD to store my precious photos, maybe the DVD will fail after a while and the photos will be lost. In that case where would you guys suggest is the most safest place to keep them? After all if you lose them it hurts as there are usually a lot of unrepeatable memories there. I could burn them to a CD to keep with the DVD show, but what is the preferred reliable storage place with you guys?
