Burning DL DVDs

Post by dpriest »

I know in past versions of VideoStudio there have been glitches in burning to a DL DVD (8.5GB). Is there still a problem with VS 11 Plus? I also know that you have to set a layer break so the video is seamless. Does VS11 do this?

VS handles the layer break themselves.
Up to V10+ burning a DL has always failed for me.

I don't have 11 since I have Win2000.

But the VOB files are OK, so what I do is generate a DVD folder or a disc image and burn that with another application.
Roxio or RecordNow or Nero are examples. Whatever came with your burner.
This my understanding of it.

I do have Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 and IMG Burn to use. Have you done this before with success? Also, what do most people do, do they just create home videos on standard dvds or do many people use DL? Since a DL can hold more information, my feeling was you can put on a lot more video and not sacrifice video quality.

Any burner application will make a DVD with the Video_ts folder files or the *.iso image. Never had a problem, Roxio included.
Also you can make several copies, I usually make a -/+RW first and check, if OK I burn a -/+R disc, two copies for safety.

For home movies I tend to use 5GB discs because DL are well over the price of 2 single layer and don't hold double the size.
Also I have difficulty here finding DL dics that are printable.

I do sometimes use DL when a single subject (holiday or family events for a single year) is between 4.7 and 8.5 GB. Doesn't pose a problem apart pricing.
This my understanding of it.
