ripple editing/all pictures/titles? VS11+

Post by brucefl »

I have to chance the duration of my clips to a longer time. In ripple editing according the the book you can move clips around and the titles will move with it?
In trying to make the clips longer, I click ripple, then select all the clips, but under clip, it is grayed out, unless I unclick the ripple.

I assume you can not to this, and the only alternative is to, lengthen the clips then moving each title manually?
thanks Bruce

I am a little confused. As far as I have been aware, if the clip is a video clip, you cannot make a clip longer, only shorter by chopping a bit off it. The only clips that can be extended are either still photos, colour panels (and of course, transitions between clips)...

The only way of making a video clip longer is by adding an extra clip (when ripple editing should work) and then rendering to a new video file...

You can lengthen video clips by adjusting the playback speed (slow motion).

still clips

Post by brucefl »

Sorry guys, my fault.

These are several still clips (pictures) I can lengthen the time by selecting all the clips, then going to clip, and changing the time.

In ripple editing you can move the clips around and the titles will go with you. What I need to do is (was) extend the time of each clip (which I do by clip), when I do that the titles are out of time.

Is there any way to select all titles with the clips when adjusted.
I know I can select all the title clips and move them at once, but where they are timmed differently, they don't line up with the correct picture, so moving them the equiv. of the adjusted time clip doesn't work. Trying to find an easier way then to move one title at a time.

Thanks

Bruce,

Click the ripple editing button, then also click on the all the tracks you want to include with the ripple editing. The symbol is a little "chain link" at the front of each track. It will keep sync'd

I found a problem when I include the music track in that it throws ripple editing into a dilemma. I'll report more on this when I do some experiments to confirm things.

ripple,doesn't work with clip duration?

Post by brucefl »

I click on the ripple editing, it turns to gold?
Then I click each chain, turns to gold,
then I highlight the pictures, click on clip
but it is grayed out?
Apparently you can not change the clip duration in
ripple editing?
I will review the link sjj1805 provided. I do get the upgrade disc, this way I get the book also, will have see if the link or the book says anything.
thanks Bruce

Ripple editing simply allows you to add more clips or adjust stills in a time line without ruining the sycn of the clips after it in a timeline.

It doesn;t make individual clips longer but obviously it would make the project longer if you add more in.

Without distorting the speed of the clip the only way to make a video clip longer is to import the original from the camera tape and re-cut it longer.

Are you trying to fill space on a music track?

still clips

Post by brucefl »

Hello,
These are still clips. I added them, then started titling each one, after looking at it, I figured it needed to be longer so I was trying to add time to it,, and at the same time, keep the labels (in the title line) lined up with the individual pictures.
I can select all the clips and add time, trying to keep the titles sequenced right

Hi

If the images and titles are complete, that is you are not going to edit them further.

You could render the project to Dv-Avi.

Then use the video file in a new project and apply playback speed.

Continue to edit the remaining project adding audio etc.

Just a thought
