Problem with sound sync when converting DV-avi to mpeg2

Problem with sound sync when converting DV-avi to mpeg2
I captured via fire wire in UVS 10 in DV-Type1 (PAL)format from a hi 8mm Sony camera.
AVI file is 100% fine no problem with sound (1 hour 45 min AVI file)
When I convert it to DVD (5500 kbs vbr) PAL. (90% Quality)
upper field first (Two pass encoding), dolby Digital sound I pic up the problem
Problem: The DVD renders complete. Never ever have ulead crashed on me while rendering. If I look at the complete DVD, I pick up that the sound is out of sync with the picture. This only happens after an hour and 10 min, it looks fine before that.
The preview looks fine and if I take that part of the AVI and renders only that part in a new .VSP file it looks fine.
Could the .VSP file be corrupt?
Project settings is AVI PAL upper field first. Dolby digital Sound
System: Core 2 duo
Graphics: ATI 2600 XT
RAM: 3 gig
Hard drives: 3 X 250 Gig (Use one to capture video)
Intel mother board
LG DVD multi writer.
Op system: Win XP
Regards
Johann

Hi Johann
We need to know a little more info about your properties.
With digital video the field order is usually ¡¥lower field¡¦
Do this:-
File-Preferences-Tick Show messages when¡K¡K¡K¡K..
Start a new project
Insert your captured video file.
From the info window select ¡¥details¡¦
Copy and paste the right hand info panel to this forum.(video Properties)
Now repeat this process for your rendered file.

Can you also confirm that you are in fact first rendering your project to a DVD-compatible mpeg-2 (Share > Create Video File > DVD) before opening the burning module? That is what we recommend. One of the reasons we do so is that many people who have edited their project then jumped directly to burn it to disc (Share > Create Disc) have a variety of problems.

Are you sure it is Hi 8mm? I didn't think they had firewire outputs.johanns wrote:I captured via fire wire in UVS 10 in DV-Type1 (PAL)format from a hi 8mm Sony camera.....
Could you let us know the model of your Sony Camcorder please.
If in fact you have a Sony DV 8mm then it will be lower field first.
Hi All
Thanks for you reply
Andrew: Thanks for you site. I think the field order might have somthing to do with this. However the second DVD from the same camera rendered fine. Same settings, as the first one.
I will check the setup settings of uvs 10 and try to render with lower field first.
I can not see the fild order of the AVI file, so I did not think that this could have an inpact. I will get the settings from home if this did not work.
Ken: It is a DVD-compatible mpeg-2, I just lowerd the bit rate to fit the DVD
Sjj1805: Yes, the camara does have a DV output.

If you are editing your DV in that format, and then making a DVD compatible mpeg-2, but then inserting that mpeg-2 into the burning module and using a different bit-rate there, it will re-render. That is where the out of sync problem will arise if SmartRender is used.
If possible, you should first produce an mpeg-2 with the right bitrate in the editing module, and then insert that into the burning module for burning to disc, making sure 'do not render compatible mpeg files' is ticked in the second icon in the bottom left of the burning screen.

It was on a different occasion (about year a go) I tried to record an analogue 8mm tape that was recorded using long play (LP) setting on an different camera (analogue camera). I inserted the 8 mm tape into the digital camera, connected the DV out to the PC and the sound did not record correctly.
Current problem is different: The DV-AVI recorded correctly no problem
I used the Digital camera with Hi8mm tape to recorded it to DV-AVI in order to edit it. (Total length of AVI file 3 hours) I divided it up in 1 hour 30 min (DVD 1) and 1 hour 30 min (DVD2)) The 1st rendered DVD (DVD1) had the problem only on the last 30 min. Second one did not.
My wife just phoned me and told me that the problem is solved. Rendered and written to disk in 1 hour 15 min with the same settings as before (Upper field fist)
The .vsp file was corrupt!
(Do use the recover project funtion in ulead) I used it on this project for the fist time). Rather go bact to the last saved one.
Resolution: 1) Redo the vsp project.
2) Create new vsp project file
3) Save project under different name (Not the same name)
4) Select create disk option
5) Check settings
6) Burn to disk
Thanks for your support.
