I have loaded VS 9 DVD SE onto a PC running XP professional and using a USB composite connection to feed the video from a Hi-8 camcorder.
I can only see 2 frame sizes ( 320x240) and (160x120) in the Video and Audio Capture Property Settings menu and thus the quality of the video captured is poor.
I have tried the same setup on a friends PC (also XP) and he has the option to select a large number of frame sizes. Can you please advise?

Welcome to the forums,
First USB is used to transfer still images from camcorder to PC, not video. Does your camcorder, (what make / model is it? ) have a firewire (iLink) port? If yes then you need to purchase a Firewire (IEEE-1394) cable.
What type of capture device are you using? Composite and USB are 2 different things. However I'm just guessing that it may have RCA Composite jacks at one end, while the other is a USB, correct?
Go to the Tools menu and select Change Capture Plug-in. In the dialog window that opens, you should see the available capture plug-ins. It should have the Ulead Direct Show plug-in.
Before going further, I think we need to know about your capture device, and if your camcorder has firewire capabilities.

Hi Ron,
Thanks for the speedy reply.
The capture device I am using is KWorld DVD Maker USB2.0. and it has USB as one end and Composite jacks for sound (left + right) and video plus s-video
The camcorder does not have firewire as it is hi-8 - only has video and s-video output.
I have a Firewire card already installed that I use with my DV camcorder.
I've checked that the capture plugin is set to Ulead Direct show.
The capture device & videostudio work fine on a friends PC.
I'm confused as to why the frame size is showing only 2 settings.
Bob.

You have a digital camcorder. Is it mini-dv or digital 8? If it's a digital 8 you can put your high 8 tape in it. If not, does your digital allow pass-thru? You may be able to rig it so your high 8 can play thru your digital.
