Titles appear blurred

Post by Peta »

Hi Guys
For some reason the titles I am using on a new project in VS10+ appear perfectly clear when inserted, but as soon as I hit "play" to see how they look, they are blurred or very soft edged anyway. The settings I am using are:

PAL (25 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
Lower Field First
(DVD-PAL), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
LPCM Audio, 48000 Hz, Stereo

I am using Arial 32pt white on top of a still image with a video overlay (text is not on top of video overlay only on the still image). I have no shadow or border selected (I tried that and it only made it worse) I also have more titles (white) on a colour black - all appear blurred. I haven't tested to see if on rendering and burning a DVD the blurriness is still there, but I've not had this happen before and am not sure why it is doing it.

Any suggestions please?

First of all, we need more info regarding the way you created these titles.

Secondly, pure white, black and primary colors red, green and blue are impossible to reproduce on a TV screen and are not allowed to be used in DVD's. The color will be changed automatically to allowable levels. Even then, primary colors tend to "bleed" into surrounding pixels, making them look fuzzy.

Since your title background is a digital image, what is its frame size in pixels. Did you create the title in an imaging program also or within VS?

Hi Heinz
The workflow is as follows:
I inserted the image ( A Tif image RGB 24-Bit) 2048x1536 28P/cm 9.2MB no compression
Next I inserted a video overlay which is an .avi file (I know the project settings are MPEG, I tried this with project settings as MPEG and as AVI, no difference)
Finally with multiple title options selected, using the title part of the process, I entered the titles I required. I have used white on top of a coloured digital image many times with no problems.
Lastly I inserted a black background from color menu and inserted two titles on top - which is text that needs to be clearly readable.
The project at this point is only 21 secs long.

Hope this is enough info

Thanks

You said it worked before, no problems? What has changed since? New monitor, video card, PC etc.?

I think it may only be the preview window quality. Render out an mpeg2 file and play that in a media player. Lets see if that is better.

Thanks Heinz - you were right, it was only the preview quality, when rendered, burned and seen on TV it is excellent!
Sorry to have bothered the forum, I will test render first time in future!
Cheers Peta

I believe this is only if you apply the Color Filter in Preferences.

No, the DVD standard doesn't allow pure white (RGB 255,255,255) or pure black (RGB 0,0,0)
