640x480 - 720x480 bars on the sides.

Post by brucefl »

Doing a project, you think I would remember by now :)

Anyways, have black borders on the sides when capturing from vcr through canopus 110. I do the DV
The bars are because of the 720?
Will this change when I burn to a dvd?

I don't really recall seeing the black bars on the side before. But going back and forth through a few different processes (vcr, camcorder, DV) things can get changed or (forgotten)

thanks

720 is standard and correct. It sounds like you just need to use the correct aspect ratio for you project settings. <ALT+ENTER> (Hotkey).

It depends on your project settings.
If you have black bars on the sides of the preview screen & the picture looks proportionately correct then your source video is 4:3 & your project is set to 16:9. So change your project settings to 16:9.

If the picture is streched vertically then your source is 16:9 and your project settings are 4:3.
Always make your "Project Settings" the same as your source aspect ratio videos.

Under "Preferences" make sure to check "ON" ->"Show message when inserting first video clip into the timeline"
If your capturing DV then there is nothing to set for capturing except for DV-Type1 or DV-Type2. If you capturing analog (mpeg), then you have to make sure your aspect ratio settings as correct and match the source video.

HI, when I capture video it has a black bar on each side of the video. The properties are
NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Lower Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
LPCM Audio, 48000 Hz, Stereo

Which I believe are correct. Should this look correct in the editing mode?
thanks Bruce
