I have a DivX video file that's 23.976 fps. I successfully converted it to MPEG2 using SUPER, but in order to maintain quality had to leave the frame rate at 23.976 fps. The problem is if I try to burn a DVD using MF 3.0, MF says that it "will take some time to render", which I know means it will re-render the video, which will likely do some nasty things to it like double the size (judging from the amount of space the bar at the bottom is indicating) & throw the audio out of sync.
I ran a test separately authoring two small MPEG2 files that were identical in every way except one was 29.97 fps & the other 23.976. The 29.97 fps file authored almost instantly while the 23.976 fps file got re-rendered.
My understanding is that 23.976 fps is a valid frame rate for DVDs, but MF 3.0 doesn't appear to allow this frame rate, & I can't change it under the project settings either. Is there any way to tell MF to not bother checking the frame rate? Thanks.
DVD authoring from 23.976 fps MPEG2 file
NTSC video (North America & Japan) is 29.97 FPS. PAL video (Europe, etc) is 25 FPS.My understanding is that 23.976 fps is a valid frame rate for DVDs, but MF 3.0 doesn't appear to allow this frame rate...
The file size is determined by the bitrate... Same audio & video bitrate = same file size. Sync problems... that's hard to predict. In general there will be some quality loss whenever you convert or re-render...which I know means it will re-render the video, which will likely do some nasty things to it like double the size (judging from the amount of space the bar at the bottom is indicating) & throw the audio out of sync.
If you are planning on working alot with DivX (or other highly compressed formats) you might check-out SVCD 2 MPG (~ $40 USD) which they claim will convert almost anything to DVD.

Your correct, this is a dvd compliant file. Also frame based video. As far as I can tell MF doesn't support this format. I'll run a test and see if there are any work arounds. I have to create a frame-based 23.xxx video first, dvd compliant of course. My understanding is that 23.976 fps is a valid frame rate for DVDs, but MF 3.0 doesn't appear to allow this frame rate...
MF3 is old, you should have been able to update it with the patches to 3.5 unless it's a SE (special edition)., still old.
