Got MSP8 running in Vista but no sound ADVICE PLEASE

Post by glesgaguy »

Can anyone suggest any solutions, I've got MSP8 running with Vista (using compatability mode) but cannot hear sound in the preview window or source window, when I try to open a sound file for preview a sound file I get an error message, everything else seems to work as normal.
Laptop with Realtek sound
Any Ideas ?

How did you manage to install it?
I tried earlier tonight on Vista Home Premium and couldn't get past the installation screen. I wanted to get a copy up and running to see if there are any tweaks that can be made such as the one found by

I am happy to confirm that the fix for Cool 3D Production Studio worked on my system. Rather than downloading the dll file I simply used a copy from my XP installation.

I followed the instructions on Uleads Vista compatability page.
I used the windows Help function to find the program compatibility wizard,
Uleads instructions didn't help finding the program.

The program starts and all seems to work perfectly, it was only when I inserted a video and tried to playback through the Preview/source windows that I noted that there was no sound, If I render the file then the sound is played back via other media players, just no sound in MSP8

I've used MSP7 for some time and have this running in Vista also, with sound.
Unfortunately I had my old system stolen, and my new laptop (as seems normal these days) came with Vista Premium installed, I can't reinstall XP as I do not have the laptop device drivers for XP only Vista

Any thoughts on how to solve my problem would be appreciated

Just had a thought, if I can run MSP7 with sound then maybe I can copy the sound dll files (presume that's what I need) from there to MSP8 or wherever, problem is I don't know what to look for or where to put them, any thoughts ?

The manufacturer will be able to give you the XP drivers: they are probably available on the Internet for download.

Running MSP under Vista is at your own risk and peril.

Doesn't the compatibility option only work on INSTALLED programs and not attempts to install them?
In other words, was MediaStudio already installed on perhaps Windows XP and then you did an upgrade install of Vista?

Ok, story is I had my old laptop stolen, had to buy a new one, Vista only installed (crap).
I have MSP7 & MSP8, I loaded both according to Uleads instructions on compatability, I.E insert program disk but do not allow it to auto boot, go into Comatability Wizard in Vista and select the disk the disk boots up automaticly, the Wizard then prompts for options, once the program has installed you can run the Wizard again and choose different options.
That's the way I did it, MS7 seems to work OK although I have not attempted any serious editing yet, MS8 works but with no sound, again no serious editing yet, I do realise that the programs are probably unstable but at least they seem to be working.

Thank you for the reply. I will give it a try over the weekend. I am keen to explore any possible work rounds that may be possible in order to make this product useable with Vista.

Having had some more time to experiment, one other thing to note is, do not run the program under the Vista Theme, use the classic Windows theme, I also noted that I could obtain sound when I inserted a sound file in the timeline and used the scrub controls, it is only when the compete AVI file is previewed or played that the "no sound" problem occurs, it's fustrating as MS7 does not have the sound problem, could it be the 5.1 sound capability that MS8 offers ?

Update.
I can now get sound in the Preview window by selecting "Quick Play" not "Instant Play"
Still no sound in the Source Window

I managed to install both MediaStudio 7 and also MediaStudio 8.
However I couldnt get either program to open even using the compatibility mode for XP Service pack 2. Both programs had the same error which was
uipal32.dll. Other than the installation folders there are no other copies of uipal32.dll on the 'Vista Drive'. A cross check with my XP Drive revealed those files are identical on both operating systems.
do not run the program under the Vista Theme, use the classic Windows theme
The next thing I did was to try the above and now both programs have started up!
At least I can now do some digging!

I have placed a copy of this post as a temporary measure in a newly created forum Microsoft Vista. I shall create a step by step guide in that forum regarding how to get MediaStudio 7/8 installed and running on Microsoft Vista.

It will of course be cross referenced to this thread (credit where credit is due - this is a great find by glesgaguy and will give MediaStudio a new lease of life.)

I got the same results from the start. It installed just fine, and I could do basic editing without a hitch. But the source window was eerily silent as was the Preview window. I am not impressed with Vista anyway, so it was an excuse for me to upgrade back to XP. Now it runs just fine on my laptop.

My main concern right now is the deafening silence from Corel with respect to the future of MSP while so many resources are thrown to the vastly inferior VideoStudio. But that's a different topic.

But that's just it...they have NOT been silent.
According to Openshaw, MediaStudio Pro and DVD Workshop would be discontinued in the near future, but did not give a date.

Do not rely on what the media say.

Tobie Openshaw is not the media... he is the Product manager at Corel... and the reporter said..."according to Openshaw..."

He did not say.... "in my opinion....." or " I heard that...."
