When I insert a new transition, VS changes the total length of the project by one second..... In other words, I have two images, place a transition between them, and the total length of the project drops by one second. This happens for each transition I place between two images. This royally messes up my attempts to get the image transitions to synchronize with the beat of the music....
Does anyone know how to stop this from happening?

That's what transitions do. They take the end of the first clip and blend it in some way with the beginning of the next one. In effect they cause the clips to overlap resulting in an overall shortening.
There is no way around it.
All you can do is one by one shift the cut point between the clips to match the music.
Does that sound time consuming?

Why isn't there an option to extend the image (particularly when using images) so the overall length, including the transition, is the same as the original image?lancecarr wrote:That's what transitions do. There is!
Just go to the timeline view and place the mouse cursor over the end or beginning of the image, a kind of arrow will appear, you can click'n'drag the length (time) of each image. Alternately you can select the image in the timeline then look to the right and see that you can manually adjust the the length of time the image is displayed.
