MF 6 Problem Advancing to Step 3
I am trying to adjust to the MF 6 I just loaded on my work computer after several years of using MF 2 on my home computer. The problem I am having is that after importing MPEG 2 files from an editing application (they play fine in the preview window) and creating a chapter menu, the program won't let me move on to the third step (burn). It also won't allow me to exit the appllication and save my project. The only way I can exit is if I tell it not to save.
As part of all of this, I am trying to get used to going through a video conversion program to go from my Avid program to MF (both 2 and 6). A problem I am having on my MF 2 home computer is that the conversion program brings the video in separately from the audio. I get silent video, then go through "replace audio" to add the audio track. The problem is that the audio track is a hair out of sync.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. I did read that before posting and it didn't answer my question. I have read the user manual, and it is of no help. I am still stuck at step 2.
Based on my largely positive personal experience with MF 2 for several years, I suggested that my school buy a copy of MF 6. It appears to have been a poor choice, but at least we only bought a single copy. I'm glad I found out about this problem before we bought it for the other 10 computers in our lab.

For anyone to help you they need to know your operating system and some spec's of your system.Thanks. I did read that before posting and it didn't answer my question. I have read the user manual, and it is of no help. I am still stuck at step 2.
Like are you running SP2 for XP or not, or running Vista.
Where did you get MF6 Plus? It's the plus version correct?
Do you have any other CD/DVD burning software on the computer such as Roxio, MyDvd, Nero, SonicDLA. Step 3 is the burning module, the drives may be locked by another program making them not accessible, not sure.

We have MF 6 Plus version 6.10.0194.3 running on Windows XP.
The only other DVD-type program I can find is "Magic DVD Ripper."
The strange thing is that I can, 50% of the time, import my file into MF 6 and rush right through to step 3 if I don't do any chapter or menu work. Once on step 3 I can back up to do the menu work and it will let me back to step 3 and I can burn a DVD when the time comes. If I stop and do the menu work first, that is, if I take things in order, I am never allowed to step 3, nor can I save my work. The only option I get is to close the program without saving.

May I add my comments (frustration) to this thread.
I too have the same problem, not advancing to step 3. I've just last week downloaded/installed the upgrade from VideoStudio 7 to 11. Purchased a boxed copy of DVD MovieFactory 6 Plus and installed same. Now both fail to advance from step 2 when trying to write a dvd?
I had Some version (not sure which) of Roxio with MyDVD installed so I uninstalled it. Made no difference.
The file I've been working with is mpg clip of approx. 5 minutes duration.
My operating system is Vista Ultimate, 2G memory, with intel core 2 Duo 2.4ghz.
I had hoped that I could just install this software and it would work as advertised without a huge learning curve, more than a little disappointed.

I give up
The problem I'm having seems to have no resolution. This forum has no answer, I note that I'm not the only one experiencing this failure, and tech support has done nothing more than send me on a wild goose chase.
Currently attempting to recover the money I paid for something that doesn't work.
Tis a shame for the description by Corel painted the software as exactly what I was looking for.
Very disgusted and disappointed.

rward39571,
That is the problem, if you can't save then the program is un-stable.
I had this exact problem awhile back. Not realizing on that computer I was still running XP Service pack 1 and not Service Pack 2.
As soon as I installed Service Pack 2 then MF worked correctly.
If you have XP SP2 installed you may have to re-install it again, or something else is corrupt.
See what tech support says, I can verify that XP SP2 along with DirectX 9.0c updates need to be installed for MF6+ to work properly.
intarsianut,
I don't have an answer for Vista unless on the first screen timeline ( Step 1 ) where you insert your videos you have the "Play as First Video" checked ON. With this option checked on you need to have another video on the timeline. The first video is not part of the menuing system if "Play as first video" (the introductory video) is checked on.
So make sure "First Play" or "Play First" is not checked ON.
Are you starting MF from the launcher screen?
