I just can't seem to get VS's Smart Rendering to work properly and I'm wondering where I'm going wrong, or if I'm (not) clicking something.
Honestly, I find that sometimes it re-encodes my files (I know the difference) and sometimes it doesn't. I played with Project Properties and still sometimes get different results - different file sizes, etc. And it takes long too, just like a full rendering.
Even when all clips on the timeline have the same exact properties this happens. I'm wondering if "smart rendering" is really that "smart" after all.
A feature that I particularly like is in TMPGEnc MPEG Editor 2.0. You drop your video into its interface, make your cuts and joins, and it will VERY QUICKLY and LOSSLESSLY create the final file for you. Its "Smart rendering analyzer" beforehand will tell you exactly where it will re-encode, which is just small segments of audio and video nearby the cuts and joins. You can even batch a bunch of jobs as well.
Question 1:
How can I get VideoStudio 11 to smart render EXACTLY that way - much quicker and without unnecessary encoding/lossiness? A fabulous app like VS SHOULD be able to do this and I'm sure I'm missing something. Can someone direct me on this?
Question 2:
How can I use VS's "Batch Convert" without the actual "convert" part? I love this feature, but wonder if it exists for "smart rendering" or "project properties".
I appreciate your reading this and I thank anyone in advance for any help.
2 questions about Smart Render

Hi
Do you have File-Preferences-Show Messages when Inserting First Video¡K¡K¡K.. Ticked / Selected.
Selecting this gives you information about your video file and project settings.(choose Details)
Allows you to know that the project properties are correct.
select (yes)
It is important to have the video and project using the same settings to enable smart render.
Smart Render is a difficult subject, it does work, how fast, comparing your system to mine ???????????
Its relative to your system. How much editing etc.
If you were to edit a Mpeg video file, render to same as project settings.
Then further edit the project, say add a title, Render again to same as project, the render usually flies.

If you are making a DVD and your original file is not DVD compliant*, it must be re-rendered. (Quite often, my audio needs to be re-coded and re-multiplexed, although the video is compliant.)
* Sometimes, I think my MPEG-2 file is DVD compliant, but the Corel/Ulead porgrams do not agree.
If TEMGEnc works better for you, use it! I use a handful of digital video programs, and when I'm editing MPEGs, I use a special-purpose MPEG editor.A feature that I particularly like is in TMPGEnc MPEG Editor 2.0.

Hey guys. Thanks. I got it working just fine.
However, it's still not as fast as TMPGEnc is with lossless encoding though...
But that's Ok, if only...if only...someone knows how to batch this procedure (such as with VSP files)? If I can batch it, I don't mind the slower speed. I can just walk away from it for a few hours as it does its thing.
Just to comment:
However, if someone knows how to batch (without converting) with VS, I can cope...
Thanks in advance!

Just to comment:
The speed of my PC is not a problem. It's a late model. However, even with slower PCs, true lossless rendering, or minimally lossless rendering, should be very fast.Smart Render is a difficult subject, it does work, how fast, comparing your system to mine ???????????
I certainly agree. One should have a few apps lying around for specifics. Unfortunately, TMPGEnc's editing is basically simple cuts, joins, audio adjustments, etc, not as extensive and resourceful as VideoStudio. I adore VideoStudio for all my productions, but when I need a quick clipping or quick merge of video content, I quickly fire up TMPGEnc, dump the content into it, and DONE. Neat. A five minute clip will only take me a few seconds! If TEMGEnc works better for you, use it! I use a handful of digital video programs, and when I'm editing MPEGs, I use a special-purpose MPEG editor.
