Black Line/Bar on screen
I've looked through the forums and haven't found anyone with this exact problem so here it goes.
When I import videos to edit in UL VS 9 I get a black line showing up on the right of the screen. Now from what I can gather, this isn't an aspect ratio issue, it seems like the black line is over the top of the original image (cutting out the last 5mm on the right)
Is this just a codec issue?
It only occurs with the videos I have taken using my digital camera (Canon Powershot A 540 - 30 fps 24bit 320x240 compression pcm)
When I view these videos using vlc, I don't get the problem. The biggest issue is that when I go to render my videos, the black line stays in the shot. I don't just want to crop my final cut as that doesn't really solve the problem (its just a last minute, stop gap measure).
Can anyone tell me whats going on???
Here is an example of the problem:

Hi
Strange
Have you used the distort clip option?
Change the background colour to anything but black, (file-preferences) what do you see, the same??
Now drag the video to the overlay track, do you see the black bar???
If the black bar is part of the video, it will show in an image.
Go to Clip-Save as Still Image, this should save as an image using the same video frame size and content.
What does the image look like.???? (view from the library.)

I have seen this before when transfering my VHS tapes over to DVD.
The problem only occured on some tapes and the problem was the tapes themselves.
If you are going to view the video on a TV screen I would try making a test DVD using a RW type disc to see if it shows up on the TV screen.
You lose the edges of a video on a TV anyway due to the overscan area (termed the TV safe area)

black line still there
When I click on and play the video file in preview, it plays without the black line, but when i click on the time line bar and hit play, the black tine pops up again. its also being encoded to any video i create.
if i drag the video into the overlay track the bar is still there
I have changed my background to maroon and theline is still black
i've compared the same time frame with vlc player and the line is OVER the top of actual video - so i know its not an aspect ratio thing now.
I just installed avi codec, divx 6 create and ffdshow with no improvements. I can post the results of sherlock.exe if anyone thinks that will help.
Could some of my codecs be conflicting with each other?

Must be the codecs
I installed video studio 11 and still have the same problem. It has to be my codecs.
Is it safe enough to keep installing codec pack after codec pack till the problem is fixed, or is that going to clog up my system and cause conflicts?
