PI ver 12 help says you can import via Path Drawing Tool/Custom Shape/Import. However, I get an error that says file is not readable.

What could be causing this?
(Note: I have no idea what version ai file I am attempting to import. Is the import limited to certain versions of illustrator files? I am able to see the image reproduced in the desktop icon, so at least windows can read it.)
Can anyone point me to an ai file on the web that you have been able to successfully import?
