Cant add effect

Post by rwalker66 »

I'm trying to add a transition effect but like other things it seems to be much harder to do in version 6 than in version 4. See the attached picture. I want to add a scene transition. Add/Change effect is grayed out. Why? Duration is grayed out, everything is grayed out basically. Effects is not even listed in the timeline for me to add it there. How can I add a scene transition?

To use a scene transition, you need more then one scene. This is just like applying transitions between video clips in a video editor.

Cut your video clip, and you will see those functions become active..;)

Cut my clip??? How do I do that? In DVD MF 4 you just went to the frame before where you wanted the transition and clicked *add to current position*. Very simple, very easy. Why were things made more difficult? If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

OK I was able to figure it out myself, the 60 page instruction manual was no help at all. In the less than 2 inches of space it gives to the effects tab nowhere does it mention how to actually add an effect. That would be helpful. Here is what it says in the instruction manual on how to add an effect:

Add/Change Effect - Click to open the Effect dialog box. Add or modify an effect by selecting it and clicking OK. You can also double-click an effect to apply it.

Well just one problem there....you can not click to open the effect dialog box if it is grayed out. You need to do the cut thing first as vidoman said. This cutting the video thing is not mentioned anywhere in effects instructions. Oh well, one problem solved, about 20 more to go. Stay tuned to this forum.

Yep, I know the manual is real helpful (not)..;)

It's been a while since I've used DMF4, so I launched it, to see the Add Effect. Yes I'll have to agree, much better approach. However it has to be cutting your clip and not telling you it is, in order to insert a transition effect. However I think Ulead should have left this one alone.
