Should I upgrade to Video Studio 11?

Post by zuza »

Hi,
I have been using Video Studio 10 for just a few months and now I am considering upgrading to Video Studio 11. However, after seeing so many messages about bugs and VS11 not running properly, I have doubts. Is this a good idea or should I stick with VS 10? I do have HD camcoder so I would like to be able to make HD videos.

Download the trial! I wouldn't worry too much about the bugs. Most of the bugs only affect a few users, or show-up in special situations. They may not affect you at all!

Most of the "bugs" or "weaknesses" that I know about have existed in the older software too. And, you can re-install (or leave installed) VS10 if you run into something that doesn't work. (I think analog capture still doesn't work in VS11.)

However, after seeing so many messages about bugs and VS11 not running properly...
I don't have the impression that VS11 is any worse than VS10. Everybody's working with different file formats from different sources (with variations of every format), different hardware, and different types of video projects. ...There's a lot of potential for things to go wrong. And, this is "consumer software". That means that Corel's programmers are probably spending their time on new features (like HD) rather than tracking down every little bug that hits one or two users. (I've never heard of Ulead/Corel working closely with a user to reproduce and track-down a bug, althought I assume they do this during beta testing.)

Thank you so much. But in order for me to invest in VS11 it should be BETTER, not just as good as VS10 (and certainly not worse). Do you think if offers advatages over VS10 in HD video?

What O.S. are you running? If it is XP, then I would not be in a hurry to purchase VS11.

Does your HD camcorder use the AVCHD? I'm sure you've read about the "bug" with this.

I agree it should be better, is it ? Download the TBYB (trial), before you decide. I think it will help you decide..;)

I do have HD camcoder so I would like to be able to make HD videos.
I use VS10+ with my HD Cam. The biggest advantage of VS11+ was support to read the New AVCHD Format.

The biggest improvement in VS11+ is HighDef capturing if it can work properly on your computer. VS10+ has very choppy preview.

VS11+ should have a patch coming soon. I would wait for the patch to be released and checkout the comments from other users after using the patch.

Buying version 11 - another issue to watch

Post by pinkhouse »

Hello zuza - following my "upgrade" purchase from 10Plus to Version 11, I have had to raise the thread entitled "Overlays in Version 10 are not as advertised".

Advertising pages and the manual say without any ambiguity at all that Version 11 gives you opportunity to create multiple overlays, but it DOES NOT.

This might lead you to look at buying Version 11+ rather than 11. Indeed, it might lead any potential purchasers to be very wary of the advertising materials in themselves, since they appear to be very explicit, very exciting, yet very incorrect (misleading, even).

best wishes in your efforts at achieving your needs, pinkhouse

While it is possible to confuse the versions, Plus vs Standard, if you look just at one small piece of information, however it is real obvious that there is a difference between them, looking at all the information provided.

1. Prices
Why would there be such a price difference? This would cause most people to investigate a bit further.

2. Comparison Charts
They do provide a comparison chart, that clearly shows the overlay tracks are not provided with VS11, but are included with VS11 Plus. This was the same with VS10/VS10 Plus.

Because one chooses not to investigate further should not be the fault of the retailer or manufacturer.
