Want to shuffle your image files?

Post by metmot »

Well the other day I posted a request for ideas. I wanted to be able to shuffle files in a directory and rename them so that when I inserted them into a slide show they would appear in true random order and save me the trouble of trying to rearrange them later. I saw the need for this since often a slide show of say a vacation will have image files in chronological sequence in the folder with no easy way to truly randomize the order. None of the windows defaults will arrange them in a random order so they can then be inserted that way in the time line. I find myself wasting a lot of time to move images around the story board and try to achieve randomness. Of course then you will still have to fine tune but it is a very good starting point if your goal is to show pics in random order. Steve gave me a link to some freeware renaming programs but these will not do what I wanted.

Well I had been looking for a utility to do this for quite a while before asking here to no avail. So I called up my dad, an accomplished software writer and asked if he knew of anything. He told me what I wanted to do is kind of unique which is why I can't find what I want. He offered to write me a program to do it. An hour later, there it was. So if anyone else can see the value in shuffling image files like a deck of cards and renaming them at the same time 001-002-003 and so on for a large time saver in creating random slide shows.......well drop me a line and I will e mail you a 4 meg zip file with the program and some simple instructions. Freeware custom made for this job. It really works slick and I believe may be a one of a kind.
