Every time I try to edit chapters in VS11+ the app crashes and closes. Happens whether there are AVI or MPEG clips in the project. Also crashes with files which previously allowed chapter edit (under VS7). Sample project properties :
PAL (25 fps)
Microsoft AVI files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 4:3, 25 fps
Lower Field First
DV Video Encoder -- type 1
DV Audio -- PAL, 48.000 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo
Corel support told me to uninstall and reinstall which I've done. Twice, using the manual removal. Any ideas anyone ?

How are you trying to edit chapters? In the timeline? At the Create Disc stage?

Are you following the Suggested Workflow?
Simply, after your editing is complete you want to go to Share > Create Video File first and make a DVD compatible MPEG-2 file.
After that is complete you want to clear the timeline (simplest method is to go to File > New Project). Then you will go to Share > Create Disc and at that stage you will insert the MPEG-2 file. Then you can set your chapters.

Still stuck - VS11+ crashes when i try to add/edit chapters
I've got a project with just avi files, have followed the workflow and created a dvd mpg2 file. With a new project I then bring in that mpg file, and try to burn. It burns fine if i ignore chapter editing, but freezes and vs11 stops working if i go into edit chapters. I did try to delete vs11 manually, twice, and this seemed to work, but not ALL the files could be deleted during that process - could it be there something "stuck" on my PC that's causing this ?
That usually indicates a corrupted MPEG file. A corrupted MPEG can cause all sorts of strange problems. (And, often a "bad" MPEG file will play back OK, but cause trouble when you try to edit it, convert it, or make a DVD from it.) I know that Video Studio created this bad file, but that can happen depending on the type of (and the condition of) the files you are converting from.It burns fine if i ignore chapter editing, but freezes and vs11 stops working if i go into edit chapters.
When you add chapters, you really aren't "editing". You are simply scanning-through the file to find and mark the chapter point. If Video Studio can't scan-through the file to set the chapters, there's something wrong with it!
What are the properties of these "AVI" files? What compression is used and where did they come from? AVI is a container format and it can contain any type of audio/video data from DV to DivX. The more compressed formats cause the most trouble. AVI/DV from a MiniDV camcorder is 13GB per hour, and it is generally trouble-free.I've got a project with just avi files...
Most of the time, it's something about your audio/video files or Video Studio's inability to handle the particular file(s), files rather than the Video Studio installation.I did try to delete vs11 manually, twice, and this seemed to work, but not ALL the files could be deleted during that process - could it be there something "stuck" on my PC that's causing this ?
