VS 11+ Canon HV 20

Post by tunafish »

Hi,
I would like to seek some help.

I just bought a Canon HV 20 camcorder which can record HiDef format.

When I connect the camera to my computer using the firewire, Video Studio 11 Plus will not allow me to capture the footage which I shot in HDV format. VS reports "unable to switch to capture mode. check if your video capture driver is working properly "

I then use the same camera and shoot video using normal DV format.
I then connect the same way to my computer. In this case the VS allows me to capture the footage normally without any interruption.

I am confused. Is my capture card outdated and cannot be used for HDV footage ?
FYI, I am been using VS 8 and Panasonic camcorders for a couple of years now without problems. This is first time I am venturing into HDV recording and editing using VS 11 Plus and a nice HDV Canon HV 20 camcorder.

thanks in advance for your help

HD Firewire capture card

Post by tunafish »

Hi,

Does anyone know if I need a special HD Firewire capture card if I am going to Capture HDV footage from my Canon HDV Camcoder into my computer ?

I am having problems capturing HD footage from my camcorder into my Video Studio 11 Plus programme which is suppose to be HD ready.

If I use the same camera but shoot normal DV footage, I have no problem capturing this footage using my existing Firewire and VS 11 Plus

Therefore I am wondering if I will need a special HD Firewire Capture card for my computer.

many thanks
