Film 24fps

Post by Gra »

Hi Guys
I see there's a project setting of film 24fps. I know this is going to sound silly but does it give a film type look to the video (and does it do it succesfully) or is it a setting for something completly different???

Also, something different (I hope this is an allowable question), I think I read somewhere to get the best out of a mini DV tape, it should be formatted (by letting it run with the lens cap on before using it for videoing). Obviously the better the quality being captured, the better the final video but does anyone know if this is this true or has anybody any other tips???
Thanks & regards.

Setting 24fps will not make a "film look" from 25fps or 30fps video - especially if it's interlaced. You're already nearly there with progressive PAL footage.

"Striping" a DV tape isn't necessary and has no effect at all on quality. It lays down a continuous timecode on the tape, which is handy if you do stop/start filming and get an unrecorded bit of tape in the middle of your shoot as a result. Some capture programs (MSP included) halt capture when they hit one of these bits of unrecorded tape.
