Choppy project playback when editing AVCHD content

Post by Zelmo »

Greetings:

I'm cross-posting this in the Panasonic AVC forum, but thought this might be a better place.

I got my Panasonic SD1 this week, figured out how to "import" the m2t clips, and loaded them in a timeline for practice editing in VS-11+.

When I play back a single "clip", the playback is a little choppy, but usable, but when I play back a "project" of more than one clip, I get less than 1 fps in the preview window. This makes editing tough. When I click on Play, I get a dialog box that says something like "high quality playback is disabled with these settings."

Am I missing something, or is there a workaround? I haven't tried to "output" the project back to the camcorder, or downrez it to another format, this happens while still in the Edit mode.

Thanks,

Under Preferences do you have the preview setup as "Instant Preview"?
Is you computer fast enough to handle avchd video?
May have an alternative solution if not, have to test it first.

Should I be using Instant Preview?

My PC is a dual-core 3.4 GHz with 2 GB RAM and twin 320 drives in a Raid-0 configuration. The video card is a 512MB gaming card, so I thought the PC was fast enough to edit HD.

Definitely a fast enough computer.
I use instant preview, if you don't then the program has to convert the video to whatever your project settings are which in your case if it's true AVCHD video it should be 1440x1080 UFF.
You need to enable instant preview, hope this works.
