Is it possible to put tracks that have been downloaded from itunes into a project - I can do it from DVD's but don't know how to either convert itunes tracks or find a way of adding them to my timelines?
After all I have paid for the music!
Audio from Itunes

VS can accept MP3 or wav files. Please note that some people have problems with MP3s and converting them first to wav files usually solves the problem.

Unless you bought one of the new DRM-free tracks, iTunes are copy protected. You cannot (directly) edit them or convert them to another format.
If you happen to have a song that's now available DRM-free, you can upgrade to DRM-free for a fee... something like 30 cents a song... I don't know the details 'cause I dont have an iTunes account, I've only read the press reports.
However, you can make a WAV file analog recording (actually digital-to-analog-to-digital) of anything playing form your computer's speakers. I believe it is OK to make a personal use analog copy here in the U.S. (It is clearly illegal to "crack" digital copy protection.)
Here are some instructions on how to record "What-U-Hear" with GoldWave. You should be able to do the same thing with Audicaty (FREE!!!).
Sound Taxi can also make an "analog" WAV copy of a copy-protected file.
If you have a DRM-free AAC file, you can look for an "AAC to WAV" conversion program. SUPER (FREE!!!) may do the trick.

Doug, that's not correct. If I right click a song in my iTunes library I have the option to "convert selection to MP3". The legality of using that song in a project is a whole different discussion. That's why I simply stated that VS accepts MP3 and wav files. You cannot (directly) edit them or convert them to another format.

It depends on how that song got into your iTunes library. Maybe if it was ripped from a CD... I don't think you have that option with a DRM-protected song that you purchased online from iTunes. (But you might be right, like I said, I don't have an iTunes account.)If I right click a song in my iTunes library I have the option to "convert selection to MP3".
