Re-Link Problem IN VS8

Post by dskaff »

 I initially installed VS8 on my C: Drive (120gb). It is starting to get filled up so I thought I would move some things to my D: Drive (80gb) that is almost empty. VS8 puts projects in C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\Ulead VideoStudio\8.0. I moved the uvsxxxxxx-xxx.mpg files to D:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\VS Projects and changed the working directory in VS8 to this new one. When I tried to open a project it said I had to Re-Link them so I went to the new directory and chose a file. I lost most of the clips. Ok I just moved everything back to it's original place and reset the working directory in VS8 as it was. Now when I try to open the projects it doesn't see them at all. Does anyone have a suggestion?

You picked a bad weekend to relocate your clips.
The daylight saving time fix was made to cure a relink problem after the clocks changed by one hour.
The clocks in England altered last weekend, the US this coming weekend.

Read the various postings re:-daylight savings patch.

Where are you in this world, if the US wait until next week to relink your clips, otherwise you may have to do it all again.

As you have moved your files yourself it is difficult to say if you’re a casualty of the daylight time bug.

So how many clips are you talking about?

Yes I am in US EST. About 15 clips. What I don't get is that I put everything back to it's original location and now not only will it not link to them it doesn't even see them whe I try to open a project. All this was done today so no time has lapsed.

so when you click on a thumbnail in the library pane does it not offer you the chance to browse to the file and re-link manually ??

Not exactly. I click on File/Open Project. Then it asks to Re-Link. I click that and it wants me to find the file. When I went to it after the move, it linked and said some clips were lost (or something to that affect). I moved the mpg files back to the original location and repeated File/Open Project. Now it doesn't see them at all.

Hi
If you are only looking at 15 clips, why dont you start a new project and then import your clips to the time-line.

If you have edited the clips then that info will be lost and you will have to re-edit

Watch out for the daylight savings bug this weekend.

sorry if this is not much help, just a bad time of year.

All the Best

Thanks, that is probably what I will do. The clips are large as they are VCR family video that I edited and burned to DVD. Appreciate the assistance. After this weekend can I assume I won't have any problem with the time thing?

As you are working on a project at the moment, Create a Video File of your project, this will make a copy of your edited project saving all your work into one file.
Should the daylight saving time bug affect you , at least you have a copy of your edited work.

The 'time thing' will only effect the projects running now.

Any new projects will be ok untill the Fall, when your clocks go back one hour, assuming the problem is not fixed. ( its a long time to wait)

Its time for bed its about 11pm
