Still image from Widescreen Video

Post by ralphtrent »

Hello
I have shot a 16:9 video. I wanted to make a still image from a clip. when I do this, VS squeezes the still to 4:3 ratio. is there a way to get around this to either, one leave it as a wide screen image, or 2 custom trim the sides of the 16:9?

Thanks
Ralph

Hi Ralph

Switch to ¡¥project playback¡¦

Use Tools-Save Current Frame as Image

Will save what you see on the preview window

For 16:9 this will be 1024 x 576

Please check this one from Corel:
"Download the uvMPEG2.dll file from our FTP address: ftp://userdl:guest@ftpph.ulead.com/down ... vMPEG2.dll
If you get an error message, click OK, then right-click on the page/window and select 'Login As..' then enter the username and password. Replace the file (uvMPEG2.dll) in C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio 9.0"

Thanks for the post, I am using VS11+ not 9. Also, what is this dll? Is there any information on corel's site about this dll?

Thanks,
Ralph

Well...depending on what you want to do with the image afterwards...there's always the old trusty Screen Grab then crop out the unwanted bits in a picture editor. Like Photoshop.

uvMPEG2.dll is a component of Ulead Photo Explorer. This solves the problem of switching to 4:3 (with letter box included) even when already set to the 16:9 mode. Back-up first your existing uvMPEG2.dll then try to use this new dll from Ulead and see if it will work. It should be located under C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio 11.

Hi Ralph

I do not understand why you are seeing a B/W image with lines.

When you use Clip (save as still image) or ¡¥Save as Still Image¡¦ from the panel icon you will get the original video size. 720 x 576.

If you are working with widescreen you need to use the Project and ¡¥Tools-Save Current Frame as Image¡¦ your image will be 1024 x 576.

As a work-round.

Distort the captured image.
Using the coloured captured image, use the ¡¥distort¡¦ function from the Attributes tab.

I still do not understand why the Tools option does not work.

What are the properties of the video file????????????

asjr_4584, I tried this last night. It looks like it will do what I wanted it to do, but this dll, also messed up my VS. What I mean is mt2 file can no longer been viewed in the program. When I go to import my AVCHD files off a dvd, it does not play them. they do not even show up as a regonized file type. Any other idea's?
