mfc42.dll error

Post by pepegot2 »

When I add text and the click on the text/border key Ulead 10 says''it must close." When I click on the error explanation, it indicates a MFC42.dll problem. I tried this with version 9 and got the same thing, version 8 does not have the border/shadow key. I can only find one copy of MFC42.dll, in another program. Any ideas on how to fix it? Using this key crashes the program. I have the update for VS 10 installed.

the problem you are encountering may be caused by an older version of MFC42.dll installed in your system than the one needed by the program. for some reason, this file wasn't updated during your install of VS or that another program was installed which had overwritten the newer MFC42.dll file with an old one.

what i suggest you do is to uninstall your VS, then search for the MFC42.dll file, create a backup of it then delete it or keep it in the same folder but rename it.

if this does not work, you may need to install a patch from microsoft that has the required runtime files you need.

The cause of this might be because of the multiple MFC42.dll files in various folders. Uninstall first VideoStudio then look for the other mfc42.dll files.

Start > search > and enter mfc42.dll to look for the other mfc42.dll files.

Rename the additional mfc42.dll file, then install VideoStudio again. CAUTION Do not rename the Mfc42.dll file that is located in the C:\Windows\System32 folder.

Please tell me if this solves your problem.

mfc42.dll error

I removed(renamed) any other mfc42.dll files (1) and reinstalled VS 10-still no good. I went to MS web site and the mfc42.dll fill they referred to was for win 98-not XP.
There appears to be no solution to this problem. Ulead should not make use of mfc42.dll. They should do it another way. My other programs work well with shadows & borders-no problem, except Ulead.
I like the program and have used it for many years, but I may give Adobe a try. This is a ULEAD bug. I have the mfc42.dll file in my sys 32 directory. Ver. 6.2.4131.0.
When I press the border/shadow button, I see the HD searching like mad, and then, it crashes.

In system 32 when I rename mfc42.dll to *.old, it recreates the mfc42.dll and the *.old. Can never get rid of it

try this other MS website...
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... layLang=en

i've checked and read the entire page and found that it is applicable to XP. here's and excerpt:

"System Requirements

* Supported Operating Systems: Windows 2000 Service Pack 3; Windows 98; Windows 98 Second Edition; Windows ME; Windows Server 2003; Windows XP Service Pack 2

* Required Software:

o Windows Installer 3.0 Windows Installer 3.1 or later is recommended.
* Disk Space Requirements: 6 MB (x86)"

i wish this could solve your problem with mfc42.dll

Thanks for the input, but it did not work. I have version 6.0.8665.0 (995 kb) in my computer. If this is version related, then it is a Ulead bug. Do you think a reinstall of VS10 would help?

The same thing happens in VS 9. Upgrading to VS 11 would probably not solve the problem.

Try to re-install VS, here's a link that provides a step by step guide on re-installation of Ulead products.

mfc42.dll error

Well, I did a complete reinstall per procedure, and still-no good. I guess this is a bug in the software, or at least poor judgement in making that choice by Ulead.

Thanks for your help.

FYI
Went to Miscrosoft tech support, by phone, and they would charge $79.00, if they fixed it. That's an investment I won't make.

mfc42.dll Error

I upgraded to VS 11+ and now when I press the border/shadow/transparency button the following message appears: "An invalid argument was encountered." No mention of the argument though. The program does not crash as it did in VS 10, and I can continue in VS 11. This is better, in one way, than in VS 10, but worse in another-a cryptic message appears.
When I installed VS 11, the microsoft pak sp1 was installed (the one Ulead suggests to update those dlls). I checked the computer and found copies of mfc42.dll in the following directories:
C:\window\system32 (where it should be), C:\windows\system32\dllcache and C:\windows\system32\inetsrv. I changed all but the C:\windows\system32 to mfc42.old Still-NO SOAP!
This is a bug.
For the next revision, I may think of switching to Adobe Premiere Elements-if they include an mpeg encoder. That AVI route is too onerous and who wants to pay extra for Mainconcept mpeg plug-in.
If you have any ideas, I would be grateful.

PS, Corel support is not good.
