Does anyone know what the Language droplist in the subtitle dialog box is used for? There is nothing in the VS11 manual regarding this. I tried changing the language to Chinese but nothing happens even when i have chinese fonts installed on my machine.
ie:
to get to the subtites dialog box in VS11 or VS10, click the title step and then click the "Open Subtitle File" option in the Edit Tab. The Open dialog pops up and in here there is the Language droplist.
Thanks

This language drop-down list is a way on how VideoStudio recognizes non-English character subtitles. Let say if you set your language drop-down list to Traditional Chinese and the content of your subtitle is in Greek characters, VS will not properly output your Chinese subtitle. If you are using Windows XP and you want to use non-English characters in VS:
1. Go to Control Panel >> Language tab >> Details.
2. The ¡§Text Services and Input Languages¡¨ window will pop-up; click Add button to change ¡§Input Language¡¨ and ¡§Keyboard layout/IME¡¨ to the desired language.
3. From ¡§Default input language¡¨ drop-down list, select the recently added language and click apply and OK.
4. Reboot your computer and then open the VS software.
5. From the Title tab, type the desired subtitle.

Hi Prabha,
There is a subtle difference between Titles and Subtitles.
Titles often vary in font, attributes, animation etc - Titles are used as Opening movie titles, closing credits etc
Subtitles on the other hand have a consistent look and feel and are often used as a transcript of the ensuing dialogue in a movie. i.e in Hollywood DVDs usually have Chinese, French subtitles.
VS11 has added support for foreign languages as subtitles. This was missig in previous versions. Since there is only one title track, you can use only one language for your subtitles.
Just make sure you select the correct language from your droplist while saving and opening your .utf flies.
Hope this answers your question.
